Project Scope Statement
Project Timeline

The overall goal of this project is to assure participation of public health stakeholders, specifically from local and state agencies, in the national HIT standardization efforts. In this project, through outreach and educational activities on HIT standardization, we are focusing on strengthening public health capabilities to electronically receive and share health-related data to support public health programs activities in their goal of protecting the public’s health. To achieve the project goal, we are focusing on the following three objectives:

  • Objective 1: Implement the Business Case through outreach on the need for public health participation (local, state) in the HIT standardization working with PHDSC member organizations
  • Objective 2: Update and enhance the PHDSC Web-based Resource Center (Interactive Model) “Public Health in HIT Standardization” -- an educational and informational resource for participation of public health representatives in the national HIT standardization
  • Objective 3: Evaluate effectiveness of the PHDSC Web-Resource Center in supporting participation of public health professionals in the national HIT standardization process by conducting digital experience evaluation
  • Objective 4: Support HIT standards testing for laboratory data exchanges
  • Objective 5: Develop standards to trigger detection of a public health reportable condition and initiate reporting from a public health reporter’s clinical electronic health record systems (EHR-S) or Laboratory Information Management systems (LIMS) to public health.
